Most people who use AI with WordPress still work the same way: describe the site to the assistant, copy its answer, paste it into the editor, fix what did not fit, repeat. The assistant never actually sees the site. It guesses.
Meikero removes the copy-and-paste step. It is a WordPress plugin that turns your site into an MCP server, so Claude can read the real site and make changes directly — but only the changes an administrator has allowed. Our slogan is simple: Make your own. Your own theme, your own plugin, your own WooCommerce experience, your own workflow.
What MCP is, in one paragraph
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets an AI assistant call tools on another system. Meikero gives Claude a defined set of WordPress tools — “read this file”, “update this page”, “list products”, “save a checkpoint” — and checks every call against the permissions you configured. Today that assistant is Claude, connected through its custom connectors. OpenAI/ChatGPT support is planned.
What it looks like in practice
You open a chat and ask for something concrete: “Write a clearer headline for the homepage”, “Set 20% sale prices on the autumn collection”, “Why is the header spacing broken on mobile?”. Claude first reads what it needs — site information, the page, the relevant theme file — and then uses the matching tool. The change happens on your site, not in a text box you still have to copy from.
Meikero’s tools cover core WordPress on every compatible site, with extra tools when WooCommerce, Yoast SEO or Rank Math is active:
- Site context — WordPress and PHP versions, active theme and plugins, Site Health, pending updates, scheduled tasks and connection diagnostics.
- Theme and plugin files — read, search, write and patch files, only inside folders you approve.
- Content — pages, posts, revisions, categories, tags and media details; menus are read-only.
- WooCommerce products — create and update products, prices, sale prices, stock and descriptions. No customers, orders or revenue data.
- SEO — SEO titles, meta descriptions, focus keyphrases and canonical URLs per page.
- Audits — Claude collects evidence and saves a report to your Meikero dashboard without changing anything.
- Version history — named work sessions, project checkpoints on request, and restore from backups.
Free to read, Pro to build
Meikero Free needs no registration and no license: it allows the reads you approve and saving audit reports. Meikero Pro uses the same plugin — enter a license key and the supported website-changing tools become available. A license never turns on permissions by itself.
The administrator decides
In the WordPress admin you choose, per area, whether Claude may read or also change things — content, media, WooCommerce, SEO — and you approve theme or plugin folders one at a time.
A few safeguards help:
- Edits against the latest version. Edits to existing files, posts, products and media require their current hash, so changes based on an outdated read are rejected.
- Automatic backups. File writes and content, product, SEO and media updates keep backups you can restore.
- PHP syntax checks. A PHP file that would not parse is refused before it is saved. That catches parse errors, not every runtime problem.
- Protected Meikero code. Meikero’s own plugin code, licensing secrets and credentials cannot be edited through the connector.
- A separate connection key. The Bearer key that connects Claude is independent from any purchase license, and you can rotate it any time.
What it does not do (yet)
- Checkpoints contain supported text files from one approved folder, made when you ask. They are not a full website or database backup — keep your normal backups.
- AI changes can still cause problems. Audit findings are AI assessments; review changes before relying on them.
- Staging and local installations currently count toward a Pro license’s website limit.
- Claude plan eligibility, connector availability and usage limits are set by Anthropic.

How to start
Download Meikero Free, install it, give Claude read-only access first and ask it to describe your site. When the answers match reality, widen permissions one area at a time — and add a Pro license when you want Claude to make changes. The guide on how to connect Claude to WordPress walks through every step, and the Meikero pricing page explains Free and Pro. We built Meikero because we wanted our own client sites to work this way. If you try it, we would like to hear what you make — and what you wish it could do next.
